How Diabetes Affects American Helthcare Facilities

A new clinical study in the publication Value in Health estimates the number of health care facility admissions for individuals with Diabetes and the resulting economic burden on the United States. Results show during 2005, those in the U.S. with Diabetes had 3.5 x more health care facility admissions than those who were not Diabetic. Though only 7% of the United States population has Diabetes, in a clinical study of data from the year 2005, nearly 22% ($171 billion dollars) of health care facility charges resulted from treating individuals with Diabetes.
